It may be a very mild start to Friday but it will not stick around. We had yet another overnight high temperature (40 degrees at 10 p.m.) and even light rain but that’s all about to change.
Strong northwest winds will blow in colder air through the Friday. Gusts have been as high as 55 mph in the Red River Valley. We’ll see gusts of 30 to 40 mph in eastern Minnesota. Blizzard conditions will be present throughout eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, travel is NOT advised in those areas.
We’ll also have scattered snow showers adding up to a coating in many places.
Temperatures will drop through the day into the teens and single digits by afternoon.
Wind chills will, of course, be colder as temperatures drop below zero by early Saturday morning. Temperatures will be in the single digits to teens below zero with wind chills in the teens below zero in the south and minus 20s and minus 30s north Saturday morning.
Afternoon highs Saturday will remain chilly; just in the teens south and single digits north.
Sunday will be a little warmer, with much warmer air early next week.
