It is a dramatic difference in temperatures from far northeastern Minnesota and the southwest corners of our state early Tuesday morning. Ely has been sitting near 26 below zero while several spots in southwest Minnesota are near 16 degrees.

Warmer air is already streaming into Minnesota and out ahead of it. That will create snow showers in far northern Minnesota mainly Tuesday.

Most places will see just a coating, though right along the international border up to one or two inches isn’t out of the question.

It will certainly be milder Tuesday but the winds will also be quite blustery from the south/southeast. Highs will be near freezing in the Twin Cities, low 40s southwest and just around 20 in northern Minnesota.

Don’t get too used to the milder weather. Colder air already is moving in early Wednesday, dropping temperatures from highs near 30 after midnight Tuesday night into the teens by later in the day Wednesday. By early Thursday morning, much of Minnesota will see subzero readings once again.
