Another cold morning leads to another chilly day Friday. Highs Saturday will be in the 30s in southern Minnesota, with 20s north. Sunday will be a little cooler. Expect temps well into the 30s next week with a couple of days at 40 degrees or higher in the southern half of Minnesota.

Subzero Friday gives way to milder weekend

A fresh layer of snow fell across most of southeastern Minnesota on Thursday. Most totals were in the 1 to 2 inch range with a few places between 2 and 3 inches.

Most of Minnesota was subzero again early Friday morning, though warmer than Thursday’s low temperatures. In the Twin Cities we stayed above zero. We’ll see highs Friday afternoon a little warmer, in the upper teens in the Twin Cities to near 20 in southwest Minnesota with just a few pockets of northwest Minnesota remaining in the single digits.

Temperatures tonight won’t be nearly as cold for most of the state. Subzero readings will be mostly just in far northern Minnesota with single digits elsewhere.

The pattern next week is overall milder as the coldest of air retreats into Canada and occasionally warmer air wafts into Minnesota. We’ll be well into the 30s most of the week and even a couple days of 40 degrees or warmer in the southern half of Minnesota. There’s still an outside chance at 50 for the south too.

After an active week, the next several days look much quieter also. We have some light snow that will brush northeast Minnesota Sunday with a fast moving clipper and a more widespread chance of flurries and light snow showers Tuesday across the state.
