Friday and Saturday will bring two of our nicest days of spring so far. We’ll have lots of sun with slightly above-normal temperatures in the 60s and low 70s for much of Minnesota.
Best days of spring yet
It’s been hard enough to have two consecutive days of sunny skies this spring but to have that and above normal temperatures has been nonexistent. We’ll have both Friday and Saturday.
High temperatures on both days will be in the low 70s in southern Minnesota and well into the 60s across much of the rest of Minnesota. The exception will be near Lake Superior, where temps will be cooler in the 40s and 50s.
With warmth comes the chance of storms
Mother’s Day Sunday brings back the chance of some showers and thunder. The best chance of more widespread moisture will be west. That activity will diminish as it moves east.

It will be cooler under the increased cloud cover as well on Sunday.
We’re then watching for possible strong to severe storms late Monday across southeastern Minnesota.
The trend is also much warmer next week, to June-like weather. We’re looking at temperatures well into the 70s and 80s and still the possibility of 90 and close to some records.

Up for some skiing?
The Lutsen ski resort has announced Saturday, May 7, as its last day of operations for the season. That’s the latest they’ve ever been open. Much of the North Shore’s higher terrain still has more than 10 inches of snow, and that’s on top of snow they’ve made through the season.
It’s not very often you can ski in Minnesota with temperatures in the 50s.
India heat wave
In India, it’s not even summer yet and already they’re dealing with deadly, record-breaking heat. Temperatures have been consistently in the triple digits lately and in the east of India where it’s also humid, heat indices have been between 120 and 134 degrees (Fahrenheit).
Extreme heat waves are one of the biggest climate change impacts and are increasing in frequency globally.
