Update on Saturday rain chances; Sunday rain chance is highest to the north

This feels like a typical June day.

Many of us had periods of rain Saturday morning. The best chance of lingering showers into early afternoon is expected to be in southeastern Minnesota and portions of northeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible in those areas.

From mid afternoon into Saturday evening, a few scattered showers and thunderstorms could pop up anywhere in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Some areas will see no rain at all.

Saturday/Saturday night severe weather outlook

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a marginal risk (shaded darker green) of severe weather in far southwestern Minnesota anytime from Saturday afternoon through Saturday night:

Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible:

Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible in the areas of the map that are shaded yellow.

The Storm Prediction Center updates the severe weather outlook every few hours.

Sunday rain chances?

Far northern Minnesota has the best chance of seeing some showers and thunderstorms Sunday and Sunday night. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 5 a.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Sunday:

Some spots in central and southern Minnesota plus western Wisconsin could see a passing shower or thunderstorm Sunday and Sunday evening.

Temperature trends

Much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have Saturday highs in the 70s. There will be some 80s in west-central, southwestern and south-central Minnesota and 60s near Lake Superior. Some spots in the Twin Cities metro area could touch 80. Our average Twin Cities high temp is 78 degrees this time of year.

Highs reach the 80s in roughly the southwestern half of Minnesota Sunday afternoon, with mainly 70s elsewhere:

There will be some 60s near Lake Superior.

Sunday afternoon dew points in central and southern Minnesota plus western Wisconsin will feel summery, in the upper 50s to lower 60s:

Back to high temperatures, Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 80s on Monday, followed by mid 90s Tuesday, then mid 80s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
