Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

We had several hot days last week, and air conditioning systems were working overtime. We can give the air conditioner a rest today. Some of us can simply open a window to receive free refreshing breezes.

We have a low pressure system to our northeast and a high pressure system off to our west. That combo is giving us northwesterly winds which are delivering cool and dry air from Canada.

Sunday highs will be in the 70s across much of Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin, with 60s in north-central and northeastern Minnesota plus parts of northwestern Wisconsin:

Dew points will be in the very comfortable 40s:

Twin Cities metro area dew points are about 20 degrees lower today than they were at 1 p.m. on Saturday. That means that we have about half as much water in our air today, compared to yesterday. 

Winds will be gusty at times today….potentially up to 30 mph in central and southern Minnesota, with gusts of 35 mph or so possible in the northeast.

Far northern Minnesota could see some scattered showers at times today. There have already been some very scattered light rain showers in northeastern Minnesota this morning. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s High-Resolution Rapid-Refresh forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from noon Sunday to 9 p.m. Sunday:

Pay more attention to the scattered nature of the showers than the exact location of showers at any given point in the loop.
