Rain/thunderstorm chances Sunday evening and overnight; quiet weather this week

Flood watch until 7 a.m. Monday in southeastern Minnesota

Our rain chances continue Sunday evening and into the overnight hours, then we’ll see several days with quiet weather.

Sunday evening and overnight

Areas of rain will continue to develop in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and northern Iowa as we go through Sunday evening and into the overnight hours. We could also see some embedded thunderstorms at times.

Parts of southeastern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin and northern Iowa have seen substantial rain totals this weekend, so additional rain could lead to some flooding. A flood watch remains in effect until 7 a.m. Monday in the green-shaded areas:

Back to forecast high temps, Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 80s on Tuesday, followed by upper 80s Wednesday then lower 80s Thursday and mid 80s on Friday. I should mention that it looks fairly rain-free in the Twin Cities metro area during the daylight hours of Monday and also Tuesday through Thursday. We could see a shower/t-storm chance return Friday afternoon or evening. Check forecast updates.

Warm stretch next weekend and beyond

Temperatures may be above-normal next weekend and into the first few days of the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temperatures in the upper Midwest from August 13 through August 17:
