Scattered showers will continue Friday for much of Minnesota with peeks of sunshine in between. High temperatures will be cooler, in the low to mid-70s statewide. Saturday will be drier and Sunday will yield brighter skies.

That low center will slowly drift southwest into southwest Minnesota, into Iowa then track east. This path will keep the bulk of the rain Friday and Friday night just west and south of the Twin Cities though we will see more showers, especially late Friday afternoon and evening.

By Saturday, most moisture will be well southeast of Minnesota.

Warmer with sunshine by Sunday and next week

Saturday will be mainly dry but will still see lingering cloud cover. Sunday will be brighter and warmer with highs well into the 70s, even near 80 in the south. Monday into Wednesday looks sunny and beautiful. High temperatures will be in the low 80s.

Small area of drought persists in Minnesota

The latest drought monitor released Thursday morning shows a stubborn area of drought persisting.

Areas of severe drought decreased from 2 to 3 percent of Minnesota, primarily over the Twin Cities area, but the drought area overall increased from 11 to 13 percent of Minnesota. Most of Minnesota (73 percent) is at normal or above precipitation.
