It’s the first frosty morning of the season for many areas with widespread 30s and 20s in northeast Minnesota to start off Wednesday. Highs will be a bit warmer in the 50s northeast, but 60s return to most of central and southern Minnesota with lots of sun and much lighter winds. 70s are still on track for many by Friday.
Warming up with more sun and light winds
It’s a cold one out there early Wednesday. The first truly chilly and frosty morning for many. Even in the urban heat island of Minneapolis-St. Paul temperatures are the coldest they’ve been, though above freezing still.
High temperatures this afternoon will warm up to readings higher than yesterday with lots of sunshine. Northeast Minnesota will stay in the cool 50s but low to mid-60s should return to the Twin Cities and areas west and south.
High pressure is sitting right on top of us Wednesday morning, creating much lighter winds today but also allowing warmer air to slowly start to move in behind it as the high moves east. Winds will become southeast today but stay under 10 mph as air flows clockwise around the area of high pressure.
The trend will continue upward with highs well into the 60s Thursday and already some low 70s in southwest Minnesota.
High temperatures in the 70s become more widespread by Friday into the weekend. The normal high by Saturday and Sunday (the first days of October already) is 66 in the Twin Cities.
