Weekend weather: Mild in Minnesota, thanks to Hurricane Ian
Above normal temperature persist into midweek with isolated showers Friday
Expect above-normal temperatures through the weekend with 60s and 70s for afternoon highs. Isolated showers with minor disturbances move across Minnesota into Sunday.
Ian’s omega block keeping Minnesota warm
Ironically enough, Hurricane Ian, which has caused devastation in the southeast, is helping to keep Minnesota mild. Ian, combined with a Pacific northwest upper-level low is creating what we call an ‘“omega block” since it looks like the Greek letter, similar to a W.
The two, very slow-moving upper level lows are pools of cool, wet weather forcing warmer air upward in between. High temperatures will be back into the low to middle 70s across southern Minnesota Friday with 60s north.
We’ll have some occasional clouds and isolated shower chances Friday and on and off into the weekend.

Saturday will once again bring warm temperatures, primarily in the 60s south and 70s northeast.
Hurricane Ian makes landfall, again Friday
Hurricane Ian will make landfall for a second time Friday in the early afternoon, this time along the South Carolina coast as a category 1 hurricane.
The storm surge won’t be as high as when Ian hit Florida but 4 to 7 feet of surge is still possible.
In addition to storm surge, many areas will see several inches of rainfall creating flooding concerns through the southeast.
