Tuesday will remain chilly with highs in the 30s to low 40s but with sunshine and slightly lighter winds. Winds will still blow at 10-15 mph with gusts of 15-30 mph, making for wind chills in the teens in the morning and in the 20s and low 30s Tuesday afternoon.
We’re still on track to see 60s and 70s in southern Minnesota this weekend.
From one temperature extreme to the next
Unusually cold air is gripping the north-central part of the United States and it’s pretty obvious on temperature maps Tuesday morning. We’ll see highs remain chilly but a few degrees warmer.
We’ll have mostly sunny skies and winds that will be slightly lighter, but still breezy at 10-15 mph from the north, still some gusts up to 20 mph.

Temperatures Tuesday will still be about 15 to 20 degrees colder than normal.
Not surprisingly, this air has come directly from northern Canada’s arctic region. The latest modeled trajectories for our current air mass shows this well.
The entire pattern flips during the next couple of days to bring temperatures that will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal by the weekend.
Highs by Saturday and Sunday will be in the 60s and 70s across southern Minnesota with even an 80 possible in southwest Minnesota.
Signs of moisture next week?
The models are hinting at the possibility of rain early next week. The jet stream positions itself into a stormier pattern, combined with a system coming in from the Pacific and low level moisture moving north.
It’s definitely early to try to pinpoint rainfall amounts, and the models have varied, but the setup is more encouraging than anything we’ve seen in a while.
