Trending warmer through Sunday

The rumors of a warmup look likely to pan out. Thursday’s afternoon high temperatures will be mostly in the 50s, with some upper 40s in the northeast and warmer low to mid-60s in the west. The Twin Cities should have a near-normal high around 57 with light winds.

Friday will be warmer than normal for the last third of October.

Very mild weekend

The warmup will peak over the weekend. Highs on Sunday will be in the 60s north and 70s central and south. The Twin Cities should reach about 74.

Showers and storms late Sunday

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to bubble up later on Sunday and continue into Monday as a deepening low pressure system builds across the northern high Plains and into the Upper Midwest. Badly needed rain will be quite welcome but the drought will continue.
