Much less windy Sunday; Light snow later in the day
Three days of cold winds are coming to an end. Winds dropped for most of Minnesota Saturday night. The one exception is the Arrowhead where the wind will continue to be strong enough to blow the snow around, so a winter weather advisory continues into Sunday morning. All wind chill advisories statewide will expire during the morning.
Not quite so cold Sunday
Sunday’s temperatures will show a slight improvement over recent days. Afternoon highs should be mainly in the single digits. The Twin Cities should reach about 8. That’s still on the chilly side, but coupled with the much lighter winds it will seem manageable.
Alberta clipper
An Alberta clipper weather system is headed our way for later on Sunday. Snow will spread across the Dakotas and enter western Minnesota later in the morning. Light, fluffy snow will race southeastward and reach the Twin Cities around 3:00 p.m.
A winter weather advisory has been posted for west central and southwestern Minnesota from Sunday afternoon into the evening for generally 3 to 5 inches of snow. Accumulations will be lighter farther north and east. The Twin Cities could pick up 1 to 3 inches, depending on location.
Then a warming trend
Monday will be a few degrees warmer. Then some serious warming will come our way for the rest of the upcoming week. Some highs could reach the upper 30s as soon as Wednesday.
