Above-normal temps return to Minnesota; rain, snow chance Thursday

Temperatures are already much warmer Tuesday and will continue the upward trend. Highs will be mainly in the 20s Tuesday with 30s nearly statewide Wednesday. Thursday will bring a mix of possible freezing rain, rain and snow to Minnesota.

Big warm up underway

Temperatures are already 8 to 30 degrees warmer Tuesday morning and we’ll see highs mostly in the 20s statewide Tuesday afternoon. Portions of southwestern Minnesota will reach the low 30s while pockets of the Arrowhead will remain in the upper teens.

Overnight lows Tuesday night will be warmer than most of our daytime highs the past seven days, with lows mainly in the teens and 20s.

Wednesday will bring high temperatures that will be above freezing for most of the state except for perhaps far northern Minnesota.

The next storm system will develop Wednesday night with the possibility of freezing rain late Wednesday night into early Thursday.

The determining factor for any freezing rain will be temperatures early Thursday. Much of central Minnesota could be just below freezing during the morning hours.

A narrow swath of snow will develop somewhere in western or central Minnesota likely Thursday afternoon as colder air starts to move in from the west. The models still vary on the track of this narrow area of snowfall.

Thursday could bring highs near 40 in southeastern Minnesota on the warm side of the storm system.

After Thursday, it will be a little cooler Friday with teens in northwestern Minnesota to around 30 in the southeast but it looks a bit warmer again for the weekend with high temperatures back above freezing in southern Minnesota to around 20 in the northwest portions of the state.
