Continued mild Tuesday with improving air quality later; snow showers overnight

Areas of freezing fog again early Tuesday. Poor air quality should improve later in the day. Temperatures will be mild again with snow showers overnight.

Reduced air quality improves

In addition to the freezing fog at night and in the early mornings the last few days, we’ve had reduced air quality caused by a large temperature inversion. Temperatures aloft have been as much as 10 to 30 degrees warmer, trapping particulate pollution in the lower atmosphere. The Minnesota pollution control agency has an air quality alert in place until 12 p.m. Tuesday for much of central and northwestern Minnesota.

Wind speeds will shift and increase from the west late Tuesday helping to mix up the air once again and improve air quality.

Continued mild; snow showers Tuesday night

Tuesday will again be mild with highs ranging from the 20s to the 30s across Minnesota after patchy freezing fog breaks up again.

A quickly moving system will bring snow showers and a possible wintry mix late Tuesday to western Minnesota and swipe across the state overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning across the Arrowhead.

Most areas will see a coating to under 1 inch, but some places across north-central Minnesota and along the North Shore could see more.

We remain mild Wednesday across southeastern Minnesota before temporarily cooler air drops high temperatures into the teens and 20s Thursday and Friday.
