Subzero temps, winds settle in after Thursday-Friday snow

Temperatures Thursday will be cooler, in the teens east and 20s west for highs. We’ll see sunshine before clouds increase as more snow showers develop late Thursday into early Friday. Bitter cold and wind moves in behind it.

Chilly Thursday, then temps plummet

Many of us saw our coolest temperatures in two to three weeks across Minnesota. The Twin Cities saw it’s first single-digit morning since Jan. 9. That’s an incredible statistic considering our normal low temperature during this whole period is 8 to 9 degrees.

Much of northern, central, and western Minnesota saw subzero lows.

This is not the extended bitter cold just yet, although highs will be in just the teens in eastern Minnesota Thursday afternoon.

We’ll also have some sunshine much of the day before clouds increase ahead of our next snow chance.

Snow late Thursday into early Friday

The second clipper of the week will bring snow showers to northwestern Minnesota by the early evening hours and those will spread quickly across most of Minnesota by about midnight Thursday.

Most of the snow showers will wrap up by the early to mid-morning hours Friday.

Snow totals will generally be around 1 to 2 inches for some places with slightly higher amounts in far northern and northeastern Minnesota where a few places could pick up 3 inches.

Wind, bitter cold follow Friday snow

Before the snow even ends we’ll see winds pick up and be gusty from the south then sharply turning from the northwest. Wind gusts will be 30 to 40 mph late Thursday night into Friday.

Temperatures will drop from 20s and 30s in the morning through the day Friday.

By Friday night most of Minnesota will be below zero with bitter wind chills into early Saturday.

Temperatures will fall even more Saturday night into the 20s below zero north to around 10 below south.

Wind chills will reach their lowest readings also Sunday morning ranging from 20 to 40 below zero!
