Many Minnesotans will see the coldest night of winter Thursday as frigid air makes a brief return. Temperatures and wind chills will drop through the day Thursday as gusty northwest winds blow in the cold.

Temperatures will fall through the day Thursday as the frigid air from the start of the week returns. Gusty northwest winds will be blowing this coldest air of winter back into the state.
Temperatures will slip from the teens this morning across southern Minnesota to subzero by evening, setting the stage for a very cold overnight into early Friday.
Wind chill advisories and warnings go into effect Thursday already in northwestern Minnesota and Thursday evening into Friday morning for the rest of Minnesota.

The coldest wind chills will be in northeastern Minnesota where it could drop as low as 50 below zero!
Wind chill values across central and southern Minnesota into western Wisconsin will drop as low as the 20s and 30s below zero.
High temperatures Friday will remain chilly, in the single digits above zero for most places.
Extended mild pattern starts this weekend
The temperatures really rebound fast; up to 40 to 50 degrees warmer Saturday afternoon compared to Friday morning.
The mild air will be sticking around too. Most of next week will see above normal temperatures with highs mainly in the 30s in southern Minnesota and 20s and 30s in northern Minnesota.
