Bitter cold Friday morning gives way to a big weekend warmup
Mild temperature persist into next week
The brutally cold temperatures early Friday will be short lived and may not return. Friday will remain chilly but we’ll see highs Saturday in the 30s for some to about 20 north. Mild air continues next week.
Frigid Friday
The bitter cold is going out in style with some of the coldest temperatures this winter in portions of Minnesota. In the Twin Cities we’ve seen our temperature drop as cold as 13 below zero, 22 below zero in Duluth and 36 below zero in International Falls. We’ll see afternoon highs mainly in the single digits and not until really the end of the day.
Temperatures will continue to go up overnight Friday night as the cold retreats for good, making way for very mild air this weekend.
Mild already for the weekend
Don’t blink or you’ll miss the change in temperature. We’ll go from temps in the teens, 20s and 30s below zero Friday morning to highs in ranging from 20 to 35 degrees Saturday.
Clouds will be on the increase Saturday into Sunday but we’ll still be near freezing in southern Minnesota Sunday with a few flurries possible across central and northern Minnesota. A more significant system Monday could bring snow and rain showers as temperatures remain very mild into next week.
