Chilly Friday followed by a weekend warm up; rain, snow possible Monday

It’s a cold start Friday and will remain about 20 degrees below normal for highs

Most of Minnesota is seeing subzero temperatures early Friday with high temperatures that will run about 20 degrees below the average in the teens and single digits. Temps warm up this weekend with rain, snow possible Monday.

Cold Friday then a weekend warm up

Most of Minnesota is waking up to subzero temperatures but we’ll also see a fair amount of sunshine Friday with occasional, passing clouds. High temperatures will be in the low teens to single digits for most but parts of the Red River valley will remain below zero.

It’ll be another chilly night but southeastern Minnesota and the Twin Cities should remain above zero.

The breeze picks up Saturday from the south and southeast as warmer air returns. We’ll see highs in the mid 20s in southern Minnesota while teens and single digits persist north.

By Sunday highs will be near or above freezing in southern Minnesota with 20s in northern Minnesota. Both days this weekend should continue to see sunshine.

Active pattern remains for the region next week

Our next storm system already moves in late Sunday night into Monday. It looks to start as rain and a wintry mix in southern Minnesota with heavy snow possible in northeast Minnesota. The precipitation will then turn to snow for all as temperatures drop late Monday.

While it’s still a bit early to get specific with snowfall totals, the models do favor northeastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin for more significant snowfall at this point while rain and a wintry mix will limit totals farther south.
