Our first full day of spring will bring rain to southern Minnesota late Tuesday and snow north. It will also be blustery and cloudy ahead of the precipitation with another round possible south Wednesday night.

The cloud cover is back Tuesday ahead of our next round of moisture. Winds will be 15-20 mph from the east by midday with higher gusts.

Temperatures will be rather mild in southern Minnesota while northern Minnesota sees temperatures near or below freezing.

Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are posted for portions of northern Minnesota where the snow will fly and accumulate Tuesday evening and overnight.

Scattered snow showers will start to develop across central and northern Minnesota midday into the afternoon and fill in by the evening with rain showers tracking across southern Minnesota late Tuesday evening.

Southern Minnesota could see two-tenths to four-tenths of an inch of rain while parts of northwestern Minnesota and the North Shore see several or more inches of snow.

Watching Wednesday night’s storm track

Most of Wednesday will be dry for most of the state. The exception will be the Arrowhead, with lingering morning snow showers. We’ll see high temperatures back above freezing in southern and eastern Minnesota.

We’re then watching the next system, which is taking a more southerly track. Most models are trending increasingly south but there’s still the possibility that the southern most counties of Minnesota could see some snowfall Wednesday night.
