The Minnesota Fishing Opener starts at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and Mother’s Day is on Sunday. It’s safe to say that a lot of eyes are on the weather forecast this weekend.
Rain chances look highest on Saturday, but all-day rains are not expected at any single location. There will be some thunderstorms in the mix too.
On Sunday, there could be some showers at times, mainly in the southern half of Minnesota and also eastward into Wisconsin. Sunday rain chances look highest in the morning.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 4 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday:

Weekend temps and winds
The average Twin Cities high temperature on May 13 is 68 degrees. Twin Cities metro area highs are forecast to reach the lower 70s on Saturday. Most of the southern half of Minnesota, plus portions of western Wisconsin, will have Saturday highs in the 70s:
Northern Minnesota will see a lot of 60s, with some 50s near Lake Superior. There will also be some 50s in the far northwestern corner of Wisconsin.
Saturday will be breezy, with gusts of 25 mph or higher at times:
Forecast wind gusts are in knots, with 22 knots equal to 25.3 mph. Gusts over 30 mph are possible Saturday afternoon on and near Lake Superior and in west-central Minnesota.
Sunday highs will be mainly in the 60s:
There will be some 50s near Lake Superior.
