More businesses require teens to be chaperoned by adults, curbing their independence

A security guard places a wristband on a person outside the Mall in Columbia, Friday, May 12, 2023, in Columbia, Md. The mall has implemented a "Parental Guidance Required" program, which requires that all visitors under 18 be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21-years-old after 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Those over 18 are offered an optional wristband to avoid being approached by a security guard inside the mall.
