Heat advisories, air quality alerts, potential strong storms Tuesday

We’ll have one more hot day across eastern Minnesota with highs in the 90s as a heat advisory continues. Strong storms are possible late in the day ahead of a sharp cool front.

Heat advisory continues Tuesday for some

A cool front is dividing Minnesota Tuesday but ahead of it we’ll have one more hot day in the 90s from the Twin Cities and points southeast.

A heat advisory continues through 5 p.m. Tuesday for much of southeastern Minnesota. Heat index values could get close to 100 degrees.

Although temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than the last couple days, it will feel as hot or hotter because we’ll see higher dew points pooling ahead of the cool front.

Strong storms possible late Tuesday, then cooler

The cool front bringing an abrupt change in temperatures will also be the focus for storm development late Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours.

Some storms could be strong to severe with the primary threats being damaging wind gusts and large hail.

Wednesday will be much cooler with lingering clouds in eastern Minnesota. Highs will be mainly in the 60s though there will be pockets of just upper 50s in northeast Minnesota. Parts of western Minnesota will be warmer as they see more sunshine.

Air quality alert for NW Minnesota

More Canadian wildfire smoke will affect air quality. An alert is posted through early Wednesday for northwestern Minnesota where air quality is forecast to reach the orange category (unhealthy for sensitive groups) Tuesday into Wednesday morning at times.
