Some showers and thunderstorms are possible late Thursday night into Friday morning as warmer and more humid air surges north. Highs will be well above normal Friday into the weekend.
Showers, thunderstorms possible
Temperatures overnight Thursday night will be similar to the last several cloudy nights and above normal, mainly in the 50s north to around 60 south.

Much warmer and more humid air is surging north overnight into Friday. A low-level jet stream (winds at about 4,000 feet above the ground) will accelerate to about 45 to 60 mph late in the night and early Friday. Think of this as a conveyor belt for the warm, muggy air.

This will likely spawn at least some spotty showers and thunder late in the night into Friday morning, especially in western and northern Minnesota, but even in the Twin Cities it’s possible.

July-like weekend shaping up
Other than the rain chance, temperatures will be warming to well above normal readings starting Friday afternoon. Expect highs in the 70s and 80s south to 60s north.

Saturday will be even warmer with highs in the low to mid-80s in southern Minnesota and those readings are likely to persist into Monday, maybe even Tuesday.
