A deepening fall storm system from Colorado is trudging toward Minnesota. Rain reached northern Iowa early this morning and will spread into southern Minnesota as the morning progresses.
Widespread rain coming
Steady rain should reach the Twin Cities area by late Thursday afternoon or early evening and should cover about the southern half of Minnesota by the end of the day.
Clouds and rain will hold afternoon temperatures down a bit from the average. Expect highs mostly in the 50s with the Twin Cities topping out around 56 degrees.
Wind also on its way
Increasing wind as the day goes on will make it feel chillier. The Twin Cities will likely see gusts in excess of 30 mph by late Thursday afternoon and possibly 40 mph Thursday night.
Rain will continue over southern and central Minnesota Thursday night and Friday before diminishing Friday night.
How much rain?
Most of Minnesota south of a line from Fargo-Moorhead east to Duluth is likely to pick up at least an inch of rain. Some areas will get 2 inches or more. Southwestern Minnesota near the Buffalo Ridge could easily get 3-plus inches.
