Lingering snow showers will depart early Tuesday with windy conditions into the afternoon. We remain cold into Wednesday before warmer temps build in by Friday.
More cold and wind after our first snowfall
Most of Minnesota saw its first snowfall Monday night into early Tuesday. Totals ranged from 5 inches in Wabun in northwestern Minnesota to about an inch for many others. Twin Cities area snow totals were generally in the 1 to 3-inch range.
Blustery winds will be with us in the wake of that clipper system through Tuesday morning into early afternoon. Winds will subside this evening.
It will also continue to be cold. Highs will range from just the mid-20s northwest to mid-30s southeast.

Expect chilly conditions for trick-or-treaters. While it will be below freezing for most of Tuesday evening the winds will lighten up to 7 to 12 mph, down from the blustery winds earlier in the day.
Overnight will be another cold night with lows falling into the teens and low 20s into early Wednesday morning.
Halloween climatology
While this Halloween will be the coldest in four years, chilly weather is quite normal — 1 in 6 years sees high temperatures colder than 40 degrees in the Twin Cities.
Overall, Halloweens are becoming warmer, just like our fall temperatures overall. Halloween average temperatures have warmed nearly 4 degrees in the Twin Cities over the past five decades.
This October we will finish anywhere from 1 to 3 degrees above normal across the state. It almost seems like ancient history, but remember on Oct. 1 we were 92 degrees in the Twin Cities, setting the all-time record high for October.
Late-week warming trend with more precipitation chances
By Thursday and Friday we should see warmer temperatures closer to normal. Highs will be in the 40s for most of southern Minnesota while northwestern Minnesota will remain chilly.
A couple of different disturbances will also create the chance of some showers Friday into the weekend. Northern Minnesota could again see some snowfall over the weekend.
