My wife and I took a nice walk on Saturday, savoring the sunshine and the unusually warm temperatures.
The Saturday high temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 57 degrees. That was 16 degrees warmer than the average Nov. 18 Twin Cities high temp of 41 degrees.
Saturday high temps were mainly in the 40s across northern Minnesota, with a lot of 50s elsewhere in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Portions of west-central and southwestern Minnesota reached the 60s.
Sunday highs will retreat a bit, but they’ll still be well above normal.

Temperature trends
Sunday high temps will reach the 50s across roughly the southern half of Minnesota, with mainly 40s in the north:
Some spots along the Red River Valley in northwestern Minnesota will top 50 degrees.
Monday highs will be mainly in the 40s:
Tuesday highs will be in the 40s across southern Minnesota, with 30s to the north:
Wind gusts over 30 mph are expected in many areas on Tuesday, so it’ll feel even cooler than the air temps.
Colder air settles in on Wednesday and lingers through Friday. Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be in the upper 30s on Wednesday, then around 30 degrees on Thursday and Friday.
Rain and flake chances
A low pressure system will spin clouds into much of southwestern Minnesota on Sunday. Some of those clouds could spread slowly northeastward Sunday afternoon and evening.
Southwestern Minnesota will have a chance of scattered rain showers Sunday evening. The shower chance then expands to include west-central and south-central Minnesota overnight Sunday night.
Western Minnesota and far southern Minnesota will have chance of rain showers Monday morning, then northwestern and north-central Minnesota could see some rain showers Monday afternoon followed by a mix of rain showers and snow showers Monday evening.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from noon on Sunday to 6 p.m. on Monday:
A mix of rain showers and snow showers will be possible in north-central Minnesota and expand into northeastern Minnesota overnight Monday night into early Tuesday.

Holiday travel weather
Forecast maps aren’t showing any big storms in Minnesota or Wisconsin this coming Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. It looks like parts of north-central and northeastern Minnesota could see a few flakes Wednesday and/or Wednesday night. Check forecast updates.
Mild December?
The NWS Climate Prediction Center has posted the preliminary temperature outlook for December. It shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin and much of the eastern U.S.:
We could see more warm days than cold days this December.
The final December outlook will be posted at the end of November.
