Flakes at times into Sunday afternoon; Colder Monday, then temps rebound

Impressive weekend snow totals in Kansas

It sure looks like winter out there!

Many of us received some snow Saturday night. Much of eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin will continue to see periods of light snow Sunday morning and into Sunday afternoon. The light snow could linger into Sunday evening in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Parts of western Minnesota could see some light snow or flurries at times today.

You can hear updated weather information for Minnesota and western Wisconsin on the MPR News network

Updated forecast info will be posted by the NWS offices in the Twin CitiesDuluth and La Crosse.

Travelers may want to know that periods of snow will continue into Sunday afternoon in much of southern and eastern Wisconsin plus northern Illinois. A winter weather advisory continues until 2 p.m. this Sunday in northern Illinois, including Chicago.

How much snow?

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport tallied four-tenths of an inch (0.4) of snow Saturday evening. It was the first measurable snow at MSP airport this November.  There has been some additional snow since midnight, which will go into the Sunday snow total.

Snow reports are slow to come in this morning, but I did see nine-tenths of an inch reported at Hastings, Minn. through 5:30 a.m. today and slightly over one inch in Mankato and Northfield and in several additional locations in southeastern Minnesota.

A winter storm dumped 6 to 12 inches of snow Saturday into early Sunday in much of Kansas, with several inches of snow in parts of Nebraska, northern Missouri and portions of Iowa and northern Illinois. The map of weekend snow reports posted here looked like this at 11 a.m. Sunday:

Lake-effect snows will hit some areas

Cold northwesterly winds will be riding over the open waters of Lake Superior later today through Monday. That will enhance the snowfall totals in much of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan:

Colder temps Monday, then a rebound

Sunday highs will be in the 20s in roughly the northern half of Minnesota, with lower 30s in much of the southern half of Minnesota.

Many areas will see wind gusts of 25 to 32 mph Sunday afternoon and early Sunday evening, so it’ll feel colder than the air temperature.

Low temperatures early Monday will be in the single-digits in northern Minnesota, with mainly teens elsewhere:
