Weekend weather: Largely dry with lingering warmth

Snow lovers will have to be patient. Most of Minnesota has no snow on the ground right now, Currently, snow cover is confined to mainly far northern Minnesota.

Here’s the latest Minnesota snow depth map, from the Minnesota State Climatology Office:

The areas that are shaded yellow have snow depths of 2 to 4 inches, with 4 to 8 inches of snow cover in the area that’s shaded green. The portion of northeastern Minnesota that’s shaded blue has 8 to 12 inches of snow on the ground.

One year ago, the official Twin Cities snow depth was 10 inches, and almost the entire state had 8 inches or more of snow cover:

The purple shades indicate 18 inches or more of snow cover in northeastern Minnesota one year ago, with 24 inches or more in some locations.

Weekend warmth

The average Twin Cities high temperature is 25 degrees on Feb. 3. Metro area highs will reach the upper 40s this Saturday. Upper 40s are typical Twin Cities high temps in late March.

Saturday highs will be in the 40s across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Dry weekend

Some areas of fog are possible late Friday night and early Saturday, and a few spots could see a bit of drizzle with the fog. Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin won’t see any rain (or snow) this weekend.
