Prompts winter weather advisories as cold air moves in Friday night

Another mild day is expected for Sunday, although with increased cloud cover. Our next system will move out of the Canadian provinces toward the Great Lakes region by Sunday into Monday. A drop in temperatures is anticipated by midweek.

Mild overnight temperatures on Saturday night will drop into the upper 20s statewide. There will be some increased cloud cover with the approaching Canadian system.

Winter weather advisories and winter storm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for northern Minnesota and a winter storm warning for southern Cook County, where 6 to 9 inches of snow are expected to fall. 

Due to the warm atmosphere, mixed precipitation could create issues in the forecast. Minor ice accumulation is possible, with the potential for freezing rain.

Sunday’s highs will reach the lower to mid-40s, with southern Minnesota seeing another chance for temperatures in the 50s. Expect more clouds than sunshine, but temperatures will still feel like early fall.

Temperatures will once again cool down midweek with highs returning to the 20s and teens, with wind chills around subzero.
