Tuesday begins with frigid, below-average temperatures accompanied by wind chills ranging from 20 to 30 degrees below zero. However, a major warmup is on the way for midweek with temperatures climbing into the 20s and 30s along with abundant sunshine.

A cold weather advisory is in effect for the Twin Cities metro area until 9 a.m. and for central and western Minnesota until noon. Wind chill values are expected to dip to around 30 degrees below zero.

Wind chills across the state Tuesday morning are ranging between 20 and 30 degrees below zero. 

High temperatures are only expected to reach the single digits both above and below zero. Expect sunshine and lighter winds throughout Tuesday. 

High pressure will settle in to the Upper Midwest early this week. As it departs, southerly winds will bring a warmer air mass to the region. 

Wednesday’s high temperatures will warm into the 20s and 30s across the state. 

Temperatures continue to warm Thursday into Friday with highs in the mid-30s to low 40s with increased cloud cover. 

After several days of warmer weather, an arctic cold front will move through Friday afternoon, bringing a very cold air mass. Temperatures are expected to be 20-25 degrees below normal.

One factor that could prevent the coldest temperatures is the lack of snow cover on the ground following the recent thaw.
