A wintry mix will transition to light snow on Sunday, accompanied by breezy northerly winds. Temperatures will stay cooler in the mid-30s for the metro area, but remain warm enough to sustain mostly rain showers.
Widespread rain showers from Saturday night into Sunday provided some beneficial rainfall totals to the region. Here are the precipitation totals in inches:
Plymouth 1.70
Eden Prairie 1.51
Cottage Grove 1.93
Minneapolis 2.00
Mankato 2.13
Fairmont 3.20
Areas in central and western Minnesota dropped below freezing Saturday night, receiving between 0.2 to 0.4 inches of ice. Minnesota Department of Transportation cameras show icy, shiny roads and visible icicles.

The winter weather advisory has been lifted for most of the metro area, except for Anoka and Wright counties. The advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, with periods of ice, sleet, and snow expected to continue into the afternoon.

Temperatures will rise only a few degrees into the mid-30s, but pockets of low 40s are expected in the Red River Valley and parts of central Minnesota, which will help melt some of the snow and ice.

Our winds will continue out of the north with gusts up to 25 and 30 mph.

As the low-pressure system moves through Iowa into southern Wisconsin, it will bring slushy snow accumulations to western and central Minnesota, with 1 to 3 inches expected, and 1 to 2 inches in southeastern Minnesota.

High pressure will move in briefly on Monday with sunshine and cooler highs in the 30s and 40s.

We'll kick off April with another spring storm system. With cooler air in place this time, we'll see less of a wintry mix and a higher potential for heavier snow. More details will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
