Weather-wise, our first weekend in May is going to be picture-perfect. Seasonal temperatures return, with highs in the 60s and sunny skies. Sunday will be even warmer, as 70s return across the state.
Solid start to the weekend
High pressure has settled into the Upper Midwest, bringing sunny skies and seasonal temperatures back to the forecast.

After a chilly Friday, temperatures return to normal, reaching the mid-60s. Milder conditions are expected out west, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Northwest Minnesota will be the hotspot today, with mid to upper 70s and breezy southwest winds.

Lows will drop into the low to mid-40s Saturday night under clear skies and light winds. The Iron Range could see temperatures dip into the upper 30s by Sunday morning.

The 70s return to the forecast on Sunday. If the metro tops 75 degrees, it will mark our warmest day of the year so far, having already reached 75 twice—once in March and again in April. The Red River Valley could even see temperatures in the 80s!

Blocking pattern
Our stretch of nice weather is due to a blocking pattern in the atmosphere. The northern jet stream has been pushed far north into Canada, while the subtropical jet is positioned down in the Gulf. This pattern will keep any storms or disturbances well to the north and south of the Upper Midwest.

Enjoy this longer stretch of comfortable 70s and sunshine!
