Referendums on the May 13 special election ballot

A handful of special elections are being held on Tuesday, May 13, including a number of referendum ballot questions. Our team collected referendum questions — exactly how they are phrased on the ballot.

Referendums are being held in Slayton and Unorganized Township 63-17 in St. Louis County, as well as school districts in Cedar Mountain, Chisago Lakes, Fulda, Kingsland and Windom.

Slayton

“Shall the City of Slayton purchase the natural gas distribution property currently operated by Northwest Natural Gas (NW Gas)? This action will establish a municipal natural gas utility.”

Cedar Mountain Schools, ISD 2754

“Shall the school board of Independent School District No. 2754 (Cedar Mountain) be authorized to issue its general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $16,260,000 to provide funds for the acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities, including the acquisition, construction and installation of a geothermal heating system and boiler at the elementary school site and facility; the decommissioning of a fuel storage tank; the acquisition and installation of new HVAC equipment and a dehumidification system at the high school site and facility; the acquisition and installation of replacement windows; the construction of roofing repairs and improvements; renovations and repairs to the exterior façade of the elementary school; the upgrading of ceilings, casework, flooring and finishes; the remodeling and renovation of restrooms; the acquisition and installation of furniture and classroom furnishings; and the replacement of bleachers?”

Chisago Lakes School District, ISD 2144

“Shall the board of Independent School District No. 2144 (Chisago Lakes), Minnesota be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $63,710,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, additions at the Primary School, safety and security improvements at Taylors Falls Elementary, the Middle School and the High School, and various roofing replacement, parking lot improvement and various other capital projects districtwide?”

Fulda Public School, ISD 505

“Shall the school board of Independent School District No. 505 (Fulda Public School) be authorized to issue its general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $35,300,000 to provide funds for the acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities, including the decommissioning of the Elementary School site and facility; the construction of additions, renovations and improvements to convert the existing High School site and facility into a preK-12 school; the acquisition and installation of an additional boiler, HVAC equipment and dehumidification systems at the High School site and facility; the upgrading of ceilings, casework, flooring, finishes, kitchen spaces and restrooms at that site; the creation of secure entrances; the construction of roof replacements and improvements to the exterior façade of the school building; the construction and installation of a track and athletic field; the construction of improvements to parking lots at the school site and facility; and the acquisition and installation of furniture and classroom furnishings?”

Kingsland Public Schools, ISD 2137

“Shall the School Board of Independent School District No. 2137 (Kingsland Public Schools), Minnesota be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $11,500,000, for the purpose of providing funds for the acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities, including but not limited to, a new multi-purpose gymnasium to provide physical education space during the school day, locker rooms, weights and fitness space and a multi-purpose large group room?”

Windom Area Schools, ISD 177

“Question 1 would authorize the District to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $27,500,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, construction of an Athletic Complex and Fine Arts Center, and improvements to the locker room, gymnastics space, and wrestling room.”
