Minnesota is gearing up for a classic June weekend with a mix of sunny breaks and hit-or-miss showers. While pockets of rain will pop up here and there throughout Saturday and Sunday, many areas will enjoy dry spells and comfortable temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Mix of sun and rain
The first full weekend of June is shaping up to be a comfortable start to summer in Minnesota.
High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are expected to reach the 70s, with slightly cooler air moving in on Sunday, bringing some areas in northern Minnesota back down into the 60s.

Along with the mild temperatures, scattered showers will pop up intermittently, offering a classic mix of sun and rain.

The frequency and intensity of these showers are not expected to cause a washout weekend, so outdoor plans can mostly go ahead with just a few quick pauses for rain.

The best chance for showers will come Saturday night into Sunday as a cold front sweeps in from the northwest. This front will bring a few more scattered showers and slightly cooler air, especially in northern and central Minnesota, but widespread heavy rain is not expected.

Another air quality alert
In addition to the weekend forecast, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for northern Minnesota until 7 p.m. Friday night. During this period, air quality levels are expected to reach the orange and red categories at times.

Looking beyond the weekend, a very summerlike pattern is expected to develop starting mid-week, with temperatures climbing back into the 80s.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center’s eight to 14-day temperature outlook highlights an extended period of above-average warmth, signaling a likely stretch of summer heat across Minnesota in the coming days.

Overall, it’s an ideal weekend to enjoy outdoor activities, but don’t forget to keep an umbrella handy just in case.
