A slow-moving frontal boundary stalled over southern Minnesota has brought impressive rainfall totals across the region, soaking many areas with several inches of rain over the past 24 hours. A short-lived break in the rain is expected Friday afternoon with only isolated and spotty storm chances returning Friday night.

Areas in central Minnesota, extending south of the Twin Cities, have seen some impressive rainfall totals within the past 24 hours. Here are some of the highlighted amounts as of noon Friday:
Raymond — 6.86 inches
Willmar — 4.21 inches
Appleton — 3.58 inches
Annandale — 3.55 inches
Glencoe — 3.36 inches
Welch — 2.84 inches
Hampton — 2.52 inches
Our widespread showers have moved into northern Wisconsin, offering a brief break from the rain. However, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Friday night.
Cloudy and rainy skies have kept temperatures quite chilly for mid-June. While our average high is typically in the upper 70s, Friday afternoon temperatures are struggling to reach the mid-50s to low 60s. However, areas closer to the warm front will warm into the 70s with a few counties to our south even reaching the 80s.

Most of Saturday looks dry before some upper air forcing brings another chance for showers and storms Saturday night. Spotty showers will continue into Sunday but a complete washout is not anticipated for the upcoming weekend.
Temperatures on Saturday will settle into the 60s and 70s, with 80s expected again near the warm front.
Sunday will be a bit warmer as the warm front shifts slightly north, bringing lower to mid-80s to the metro area and points south with temperatures in the 70s to the north.
We’re looking at a stormy pattern continuing into next week with the 6-10 day precipitation outlook showing above-average chances of rain. Be sure to keep your umbrellas handy.
