Warmer temperatures are in store for Father's Day, but cloudy skies are expected to linger throughout the day. Looking ahead to Monday, an enhanced risk of severe weather looms, with strong storms potentially sweeping through the region.
Father’s Day forecast
Lingering cloud cover with occasional breaks of sun are expected for Father's Day, helping to push temperatures into the 70s and 80s.

Southern areas could even see highs reaching the low 80s, while northern Minnesota will enjoy more sunshine, with temperatures topping out in the upper 70s.

Areas in southern Minnesota will have the greatest chance for showers and storms developing Sunday afternoon into the evening hours.

Severe weather threat
Our next severe weather threat arrives on Monday, as a surface cold front pushes southward across the state. Ahead of the front, dewpoints will climb into the sticky 60s and 70s, providing plenty of fuel for storms.

Non-severe storms are expected to develop early Monday morning across the Dakotas and push into western Minnesota. The duration of these storms could influence the severe weather threat for Monday afternoon and evening, requiring close monitoring of the cold front's movement.
As of right now there is an enhanced risk (3 out of 5) for severe storms for central and southern Minnesota. Tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds are all possible with the current setup.

After Monday, ridging will build back into the area, bringing a couple of quieter days for Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will remain seasonal, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
