Record-setting heat during the day is carrying over into a very warm Saturday night, with overnight lows only dipping into the upper 70s to low 80s. Little relief from the heat is expected through the night.

The oppressive heat continues following a record-setting day in the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, where preliminary highs reached around 96 degrees. Saturday night will offer little relief, with overnight temperatures only falling into the upper 70s to low 80s—keeping conditions uncomfortably warm well into the night.

Tropical dew points in the 70s stick around through Sunday, keeping conditions muggy and adding to ongoing extreme heat concerns. A cold front will move through late Sunday into Monday, bringing welcome relief as dew points drop back into the more comfortable 50s.

Extreme heat warnings and heat advisories remain in effect across the state through 9 p.m. Sunday. With heat indices continuing in the triple digits—driven by high temperatures and muggy dew points—dangerous heat conditions will persist.

On Sunday, our warm front will push further north into northern Minnesota, bringing temperatures once again into the 90s and the triple digits.

Surface analysis for Sunday shows the warm front positioned near the international border, while the cold front remains over the Dakotas.

The heat will be short-lived as the cold front cools us down for next week. The front will bring an increased chance for severe weather. A slight risk exists for Sunday for a majority of Minnesota. Potential hazards include large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.
