After five years of serving Northeast Minneapolis, 

 restaurant has announced that it will be closing its doors on Aug. 24.  

Stepchld is located at 24 University Ave. NE.  

, the restaurant’s owner and chef, Kamal Mohamed, said that multiple issues led to the establishment’s closure.  

“Running a small, full-service restaurant has always been a labor of love,” Mohamed said. “Unfortunately, a number of evolving factors have impacted our ability to operate our current 38-seat, full-service model sustainably for the long term.” 

, Mohamed said those factors included rising costs of food, labor and rent.
