Heavy rain and thunderstorms continue across southeastern Minnesota Thursday evening, with a tornado watch in effect until 8 p.m. The severe weather threat will gradually diminish as storms move out early tonight.

Skies will gradually clear through the day on Friday, bringing dry conditions and some sunshine, although temperatures will remain below average.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in southeastern Minnesota: Dodge, Fillmore, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. Here’s the bulletin from the National Weather Service:

Brief break from rain

Friday will be our one-day break between systems, bringing dry conditions.

Our temperatures will be below average on Friday, but with highs reaching the 70s and even 80s out west, along with dew points in the 50s to near 60 degrees, it will feel quite comfortable and, best of all, dry!

Heat and humidity return this weekend, with temperatures climbing into the 80s and near 90 degrees in southern Minnesota.

With the return of heat and moisture, there is potential for severe weather in western Minnesota Friday night into Saturday morning as storms move east from the Dakotas.

Additionally, stronger showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening, mainly across central and southern Minnesota, with a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Storm Prediction Center.
