Another round of heavy June rain swept across Minnesota this week, bringing impressive totals to parts of the state. We’ll also take a closer look at the latest state drought conditions.
June soakers
A very active June has brought abundant precipitation to the region. The latest 30-day precipitation totals reveal that parts of central and southern Minnesota received 5 inches to more than 10 inches of rain.
Meanwhile, portions of northwestern Minnesota received only a few inches of rain during this period.

Latest on Minnesota drought conditions
Minnesota saw slight improvement in drought conditions thanks to June rainfall, but many drought-stricken areas still didn’t receive enough moisture for meaningful relief.
Areas that saw improvement closely align with the 30-day rainfall map. Northeastern Minnesota has now caught up and is experiencing no drought, while central and southern parts of the state remain drought-free.
Tuesday’s drought monitor report showed a 10 percentage point increase in areas of Minnesota free from drought or abnormally dry conditions, while the coverage of abnormally dry conditions dropped by nearly the same amount.
North-central and northwestern Minnesota could really use some rainfall, particularly in Kittson, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, Hubbard, Wadena, and Cass counties.
