Cooler Monday: breezes pick up with scattered showers and storms

A stretch of sunshine and quieter weather is ahead

After several days of stormy weather, we’re finally entering a much-needed stretch of quieter conditions. While some scattered showers and thunderstorms may still pop up, no severe weather is expected. Looking ahead, a gradual warmup is on the way, setting the stage for our holiday week.

Cooler and breezy Monday

A pleasant start to the 4th of July week with sunshine and slightly cooler temperatures. Highs will reach the 70s to around 80 degrees.

Dew points have dropped significantly from the oppressive 60s and 70s over the weekend. Northern Minnesota will see comfortable 50-degree dew points, with the south staying in the low 60s.

Winds will pick up out of the northwest, with sustained speeds of 10-20 mph and gusts around 30 mph.

An upper-air low pressure system will push southward into North Dakota, bringing the chance for scattered showers and thunder to mainly northern Minnesota. Small, very isolated pop-up showers are possible across the state today as well with cooler air aloft.

Winds will decrease Monday night as temperatures drop into the upper 50s to low 60s.

Tuesday will be our driest day as Canadian high pressure moves in, bringing mainly sunny skies and seasonal temperatures in the low to mid-80s.

Temperatures will gradually warm through the week, reaching the 80s statewide by Wednesday and Thursday. Heat and humidity will build back in for the 4th of July holiday, with dew points in the 70s and temperatures nearing 90.

We’re also watching for a stormier pattern with fronts moving through around the 4th.
