Heat break ahead: Cold front brings showers and storms

After a hot and sticky Fourth of July, some much-needed relief is on the way. A cold front will move through the region, bringing showers and storms to the region. By Sunday, dew points will drop, and sunshine will return, making for a much more comfortable end to the holiday weekend.

Our slow, moving cold front will bring scattered cloud cover with showers and storms to our Saturday. Cooler temperatures will bring a refreshing change with highs expected in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Dew points will remain a bit on the muggy side for now, but relief is on the way as more comfortable 50s and 60s dew points move in by Sunday morning.

Showers and storms will continue to track along the cold front, with a marginal risk for severe weather shifting eastward into Wisconsin. The main threat will be some stronger wind gusts along the front. Most of Minnesota should clear out by late Saturday night.

A flood watch remains in effect for northeastern Minnesota until 1 p.m., with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch of rain possible in the area.

Some Canadian wildfire smoke will drift into northern Minnesota, with air quality expected to reach the moderate category.

Cooler and drier air will settle in on Sunday, with highs reaching the mid to upper 70s across northern and central Minnesota, and a few spots climbing into the low 80s.
