It’s all about the haze this weekend, but there is some relief on the way.
We’ll get a wind shift tonight that will begin to clear wildfire smoke from our air. With a southwest wind overnight and throughout the day tomorrow, the air should begin to clear from west to east starting Sunday morning and continuing through the day so that by Sunday evening we are mostly smoke-free statewide.
There is the possibility for another quick band of smoke to pass through Sunday overnight, which is why the Air Quality Alert from the National Weather Service is in effect until 9 a.m. Monday morning.
Until then, smoke will continue to be thickest across the northern half of the state, especially the northeast.

Other than the smoke, we have a quiet weather weekend. There are a few pop up showers and storms in the northeast this evening. Under otherwise mostly clear skies, temperatures will drop into the low to middle 60s tonight in the city and upper 50s outside the metro with southwest breeze about 10 mph.
Dew points in the mid 50s are well within the comfortable range under Minnesota summer standards.
Humidity does start to creep back up again Sunday along with the temperatures as that southwest wind changes the pattern. Dew points head into the middle 60s and temperatures are back to near normal levels in the middle 80s. Like today, there is a small chance for a few pop up storms, especially late in the day, mostly for the metro and areas north.
The next chance for thunderstorm activity is shaping up for Tuesday into Wednesday, although there is no specific threat at this time for severe weather.
