Minneapolis police are investigating after a person was shot and killed Tuesday in the city's Elliot Park neighborhood.
Police responded to the 1500 block of 11th Avenue South around 6:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting. They found a man in his 30s on the porch of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers and emergency medical staff provided aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the man as 30-year-old Lafayette Anthony Collaso, and said he died of a gunshot wound of the chest.
According to the department, investigators believe an argument between a group of people on the sidewalk escalated to gunfire. Police believe the shooter and Collaso knew each other. The shooter left the scene before police arrived.
Police chief Brian O'Hara said police are reviewing footage from cameras near the scene and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
“Our investigators will do everything they can to identify the shooter in this homicide, including gathering any available video from the area,” O’Hara said in a statement. “We need anyone with information — no matter how minor it may seem — to share that information with us.”
