Temperatures tonight will the be coolest yet this season. Lows will range from frosty north to the 40s south. Clouds increase Thursday with rain developing late in the day into Thursday night.
Chilly tonight with more rain moving in Thursday
The coolest air of the season thus far has settled into the region and it will lead to a chilly overnight. Skies will partially to mostly clear out allowing temps to dive to the coolest readings since May.
A frost advisory is posted for tonight into early Thursday across northern Minnesota. Overnight lows will be in the 30s north to the 40s south. It will be the first time the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has been below 50 degrees since May 25.
Thursday will remain cool with highs again in the 60s and 50s. We’ll have sun to start but clouds will increase.
A clipper-system will develop rain by Thursday afternoon in northwest Minnesota spreading south and east into the late afternoon and overnight Thursday night. We could see 0.25 to 0.50 inches of rainfall from Thief River Falls to Bemidji, Brainerd, St. Cloud and the Twin Cities into western Wisconsin.
Behind the clipper-system, the cool air will be reinforced for Friday. Highs Friday will struggle to reach the low 60s even in southern Minnesota.
We should see more sunshine this weekend but temps will remain cool. Next week promises warm temperatures in the 70s to even near 80-degrees by late next week in southern Minnesota.
