Cool air is reinforced behind Thursday night’s clipper system. It also comes with wind. We should see more sun this weekend, but temperatures remain below normal until next week.
A chilly and windy first Friday of September
Thursday night’s clipper-system brought some decent rainfall to portions of northern and south-central Minnesota.
A couple swaths of rain ranging from 0.25 to 0.7 of an inch fell in two main areas. Deer River in Itasca County received 0.78 of an inch; Aitkin picked up 0.73; Duluth received 0.52 of an inch.
The Twin Cities officially picked up 0.35 of an inch of rainfall. That brings this week’s total at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to 0.72 of an inch — more than the last two weeks of August combined.

A reinforcing shot of chilly air is sliding in behind Thursday night’s clipper system. It will keep most of Minnesota only in the 50s for afternoon highs. A few spots in southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, may reach 60 degrees with a mix of clouds and sun.
It will also be windy with northwest winds 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts in western Minnesota near 40 mph at times.
We’ll have a few spotty, instability-driven showers possible Friday midday and afternoon and even isolated to spotty showers possible for some Saturday, especially north.
The weekend will generally be brighter but still on the cool side of normal with highs mostly in the 60s and 50s. Sunday will be the likely sunnier of the two days.
The nights will be cold — in the 30s north (with more potential frost) to 40s south.
Next week will bring back highs in the 70s, closer to normal, for central and southern Minnesota. We may even see some 80-degree highs again late next week or next weekend.
