A weak clipper system and cool front will drop temperatures back into the 70s Friday and into the weekend before 80s return early next week. Northern Minnesota may see a few showers Friday night.

A bit cooler Friday and Saturday, then more 80s 

We have another sun-filled day Friday thanks to another area of high pressure sliding in behind Thursday’s weak cool front; it’s the first of two.

It’ll be a few degrees cooler than Thursday but still well above normal. Highs will be in the 80s in southwestern Minnesota with 70s for most. Far northern Minnesota will be in the 60s. 

Northern Minnesota could see a few brief showers Friday night with the second clipper system and trailing cool front. It’s the only chance of rain in the state until perhaps the end of next week. 

The weekend will continue to be just below 80 degrees but still a good 5 to 10 degrees above normal — in the 70s for most. We’ll continue to see abundant sunshine as well. Overnight lows will be in the 50s south and 40s north. 

By Monday and Tuesday, the final days of September, highs are back in the 80s for much of southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. Parts of west-central and southwestern Minnesota may even reach 90 degrees Monday afternoon! 

This would bring our count of days with highs of 80s or warmer this month to 10 in the Twin Cities. Historically we’d see just five or six in the month of September, on average. In modern times, we average nine. 

We’re all but assured to be in the top 10 warmest Septembers. Last year took the hottest September spot. The six to 10-day temperature outlook shows continued above-normal temperatures as we begin October:
