A warm and breezy night is on tap, with temperatures expected to stay well above average, potentially breaking record-warm lows by sunrise. However, a cold front will sweep through late Sunday, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and ushering in much cooler air to end the weekend.
Record warm lows overnight
Another record-breaking afternoon unfolded across the region, with high temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and low 90s. The Twin Cities set a new daily record, reaching 91°F on Saturday and surpassing the previous mark of 89°F set back in 1922. Several other cities also broke their daily high temperature records, highlighting the unusual October heat gripping the area.
Overnight temperatures are expected to break warm low records, with lows only dipping into the upper 60s to low 70s.
Winds will stay breezy from the south ahead of the cold front arriving Sunday, with gusts between 35 and 45 mph expected throughout the day.
Our long-awaited cold front will arrive in western Minnesota by Sunday morning and reach the Twin Cities area by late Sunday afternoon to early evening. This front is expected to trigger showers primarily across northern and northwestern Minnesota, though isolated showers can’t be ruled out as it moves through the region.
