Polaris, the Minnesota commercial and military vehicle company, announced Monday it will sell its majority stake in Indian Motorcycle to a Los Angeles private equity firm.
Under the deal, Polaris will separate the motorcycle company from its portfolio and agree to sell a majority stake to Carolwood LP, the company said in a statement. In addition, 900 employees will transition to the standalone company.
Manufacturing facilities in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Monticello, Minn., and an industrial design and technology center in Burgdorf, Switzerland, will also transition to the new company.
The sale is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, Polaris officials said. Indian Motorcycle accounted for $478 million, or 7 percent, of Polaris' revenue over a 12-month period ending June 30 of this year.
The CEO of Polaris said in the statement that Indian Motorcycle will be able to succeed as a standalone company with a “dedicated focus on its industry.”
